Tips When Using Reiki on Animals

* Probably the single most important thing when working with an animal is to ask its permission to give it Reiki. Ask aloud or mentally, and if you "feel" a positive answer or the Reiki starts to flow, you'll know the animal is accepting it. Honor the idea that an animal might reject Reiki.

* Animals will let you know what part of their body they want you to work on. JoAnn once had a dog place it's aching hip directly on her foot.

* Animals don't always want hands-on treatment, especially small animals. If they move away from you, don't pursue them.

* Many times, Reiki will put an animal in a deep, relaxed sleep. It can also make them very thirsty. Make sure you both have water when you're finished!

* Often, an animal will change position while you're treating them. Resist the temptation to move your hands as they change position. By moving, they are telling you where they want your hands to be, so leave your hands in place and let the animal adjust themselves.

"We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own, live within a fragile circle easily and often breached. Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way. We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan."    Irving Townsend
