"Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened." ~ Anatole France |

We've had Mika the cat for almost a year. When my husband and I first brought her and her buddy Zack into our home, they spent most of the time under the bed, coming out only to sniff at the food dish and hit the litter box. As soon as they saw someone taller than 12", back under the bed they would go. They were afraid of everything: feet, hands, loud noises, sudden movements, and, sadly, laundry baskets. |

We've been owned by many cats over the years, but these two presented a challenge we'd never faced before: bringing a mistreated animal back to a place of trust with humans. It's taken almost a year and more patience than I knew we had as a family, and we're not all the way there yet. But these sweet kitties have changed so much for the better from when they joined our family. They are relaxed and social, and they lick us with eyes closed and long, loving strokes of their little sandpaper tongues. Mika has just started to visit us in bed for pats, and Zack spent a blissful afternoon today sitting next to my son on the couch, absorbing pats and scritches. They've turned into "people cats." |

Reiki has played an integral role in the healing of these two innocents. Mika is not a huge fan of hands-on, but is becoming more interested, and will always accept it distantly. Zack is "Mr. Hands On, Reiki On, Motor On." Different cats, different needs. Our dear departed Sid purred continuously for over 45 minutes during a hands-on treatment he demanded in the wee hours of the morning when he came into bed and woke me up. And our sweet golden retriever Mandy transitioned quite suddenly after a Reiki love session. Animals know what they need, and I feel like I'm finally learning how to listen. |

I could fill this page with story after story, photo upon photo. Suffice to say that if we only took the time to listen and observe, we could learn a lot from our four-legged friends. Animals are our voiceless partners in this world. |
