What is Reiki?

What is Reiki?  What a difficult question to answer.  Our English language does not have any words to describe it.  I can tell you that the word “Reiki” is Japanese for “Universal Life Force."  It’s that energy called “life” that binds all living things together.  The Chinese say “Chi."

I can tell you that the techniques used in Reiki move energy through your body and chakras the same way as acupuncture, acupressure, massage and healing touch.  Moving the energy boosts your body’s own ability to heal itself.  Reiki never interferes with medications or other medical treatments.  I have seen it work and have had people report feeling better after a Reiki treatment.

Reiki can go into the past to heal emotional issues such as traumatic experiences.  It can also go into the future to bring the highest and best outcome surrounding an event such as a pending surgery or job interview.

I can tell you that when I attune someone to the Reiki energy using the mantras and symbols for Reiki, I can feel a shift in the person’s energy.  I have also seen that my students develop a strong intuition and the talents they had before their attunement are strengthened and refined.

What I can’t tell you is exactly how Reiki works.  But then I can’t tell you exactly how a Tylenol works, either.  Lots of folks are trying to explain it.  None can quite provide the answer.  I can tell you that being able to accept healing from a source you don’t completely understand is a step in spiritual growth.

You can read every word written about Reiki and still not know the whole meaning of Reiki.  You can question, argue with, accept or reject what you read.  At some point you must put aside the printed material and search with your heart and with your faith to begin to truly understand it.

I can tell you that Reiki only brings the highest good.  Once you are attuned to Reiki energy, it doesn’t matter how much more you know or understand.  You simply offer it as healing to all living things around you.  “Hands on, Reiki on.”
